Educational DVD now available

The educational DVD based on the 1907 Harbeck video is now complete. We donated a copy of the video along with a Teacher Resource Guide to each school in the three local school districts as well as all independent schools in the CRD. Copies of the DVD are available from the office for a donation (suggested donatiion - $10.00). The Teacher Resource Guide is online for those who are interested.

Clipping photo project complete

Our summer 2009 project is finally complete. Thanks to a grant frm the Irving K Barber Learning Centre at the University of British Columbia, all the photographs in our clipping files - almost 8,000 in total - have been scanned with relevant information input to a database. The entire site is now available for viewing. Guests who wish high resolution copies of the photographs can order them via email to office@hallmarksociety.ca

Harbeck video project

We received a grant of $1,000 from the Hbc Foundation and a grant from the BC150 - Heritage Legacy Fund to enable us to present the Harbeck 1907 video (Victoria portion) online with details of the buildings visible in 1907 and notations on those extant today. There is also information on what would have been on that location in 1858 (where applicable).

The project had to be completed by March 31 2009 to qualify for the special funding and was  officially launched on April 18, 2009, the 36th anniversary of the founding of the Hallmark Society. Our beautiful birthday cake was baked and decorated by The Dutch Bakery.
