Special Projects
The Hallmark Society is currently involved in five special projects. Volunteers are urgently needed. If you can spare a few hours a month to help with any project, please let us know.
The Projects
1. The "You Don't Know What You've Got 'Til It's Gone"Project. A proactive research project to identify properties in danger, to document them and to present our findings to the appropriate municipal council. Click here to see our preliminary listing.
2. Harbeck 1907 movie project. In partnership with the University of Victoria History Department, we are presenting the Victoria portion of this historic movie with annotations. The students have completed a short project on Victoria's Victoria website. We hope to add more content to the site and to create our own site with different information. In addition to the UVic site, we have been granted funds to produce our own website for the video with annotations on the buildings in 1907, those that are extant today, and what would have been there in 1858.
3. Restoration of Ross Bay Villa, a historic 1865 cottage owned by The Land Conservancy of BC.
4. Our Documentation Project - Photographic documentation of Fairfield, Gonzales, and Rockland neighbourhoods. This project is funded by BC2000 Arts and Heritage Fund and the SSHRC funded Community-University Research Alliance at the University of Victoria. We are in the final stages of this project and hope to have much of the material up on our website by the end of 2012.
5. The South Vancouver Island Regional Heritage Fair - a fun experience for school-aged children.
