Volunteer Job Descriptions
Office reception |
Under the supervision of the Administrative Director, volunteers to work 3-4 hours shifts one day a week on a regular basis. Duties include answering the telephone, greeting visitors to the office, assisting with research, cataloguing, and signing up new members. |
Research Assistant |
This is a short-term position in which the volunteer undertakes a specific research project approved by the Administrative Director. |
Telephone Committee |
Members of this committee phone up to 20 members to remind them of special events, meetings and tours. This job requires the volunteer to phone approximately four times a year. |
Awards Night |
This evening - generally the first Tuesday in May - is the Society's largest event in the heritage calendar. We require the short-term services of several volunteers in the following categories: Photographer, Reception desk, Usher, Research, Script writing, Script reading, Set up and clean up, and Refreshments. |
Meetings |
Volunteers are required three times a year to assist with set up, refreshments, arranging for speakers, reception desk, and clean up. |
Newsletter |
The newsletter is the way the Society communicates with its members. Volunteers are needed to write articles, take photographs, solicit advertising, and assist with mail out. This is a four-time a year commitment. |
Special Projects |
From time to time, the Society undertakes special projects. There are three such projects now, see our special projects page for details. |
Tours |
During spring, summer and fall, Society members enjoy a variety of tours to heritage sites. Volunteers are required to assist with planning, coordination of transportation, and documentation of the tour through photographs and written reports. |
Board of Directors |
The elected volunteer meets monthly to handle the routine business of the Society. Board members are expected to attend Society functions, including meetings, and to assume one special function related to Society work. |
